Whether you are looking for permanent or temporary dental insurance, you should know that there are many great options available to you these days. Dental insurance is incredibly important, even more so than health care insurance, because everyone needs and uses dental coverage.

What Dental Insurance is

Before you can find the right permanent or temporary dental insurance, you are going to need to learn more about dental insurance itself and what is involved here. There are two insurance acronyms that are used commonly, which are PPO and HMO. With the PPO insurance plans, the companies work by negotiating fee schedules with dentists in exchange for the dentist being put on a list of preferred providers.

For the most part, PPO plans cover things such as preventive care, cleanings, checkups and so on.

Then there are the HMOs, which have really received a barrage of negative publicity over the years. This particular type of insurance requires some type of prepayment from you, and in HMO dental coverage, dentists in a network have to provide dental care to members of the insurance plan that they are a part of.

The basic HMO temporary dental insurance plan covers basic dental services such as regular dental exams and dental x-rays, as well as certain other dental procedures including dental crowns, bridgework and dentures.
